The environment for European luxury brands in the US may have got a little tougher in recent months, but at its recent Q1 results, Hermès said US store traffic was continuing to rise and trends remained positive in Q2.

So it’s continuing its focus on stores in the country and has just a announced the opening of a store in Aspen, Colorado, bringing its US total to 34 locations.

Surrounded by trees and mountains, the company said its second location in the state of Colorado “blends seamlessly with its environment and offers a unique setting for the presentation of all the objects made by the house”.

In keeping with the location, the store is a multi-room “chalet” transformed by Parisian architecture agency RDAI.

Playing with the contrast between stone and wood, inside it “pays homage to the local larch wood, whose honey colour adorns the staircase leading to the first floor, where a bay window offers a panoramic view of the neighbouring peaks”.

Each level of the store features “original works that evoke its mineral and organic character”.

On the ground floor, there are women’s and men’s silk collections, fashion accessories, perfumes and beauty, as well as a space dedicated to leather goods, “made more intimate by a wooden screen”.

The mezzanine, “which looks like a cabinet of curiosities”, houses the maison universe and the equestrian collections in grey and bright gold tones “echoing the surrounding birch trees”.

The second floor strongly reflects the chalet theme with exposed beams, a fireplace and lots of natural light. It’s divided between a shoe lounge near the fireplace, men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, as well as jewelry and watches in a yellow velvet boudoir.
